Southern Nevada: The Boomtown Years 1900-1925

This LSTA grant-funded project documents both large historical events and the more private and social lives of individuals and their communities during the mining boom in Southern Nevada in 1900-1925. Material digitized includes postcards; photographs; material from mining companies such as stock certificates, maps, business records, reports, surveys, and prospectuses; personal and business correspondence; newspapers; maps; and ephemeral material such as hotel registers, memoirs, programs for various social and sporting events, and the minute book of the Goldfield Woman's Club. Southern Nevada: The Boomtown Years brings together a wide range of original source materials found in widely diverse collections from UNLV Libraries Special Collections, the Nevada State Museum, and Historical Society in Las Vegas and the Clark County Heritage Museum. In addition to original source materials, the collection provides a wide variety of standards-based activities for elementary and high schoolers.
